From a Cow to a Company
In 1939, Vasilios and Aphrodite Haseotes started it all in Cumberland, RI with nothing but a cow and a dream.
One cow become two, two became a herd and in no time at all Vasilios and Aphrodite had created their own family dairy - one that provided over a thousand quarts of fresh milk per day.
The Haseotes family envisioned a better way to serve their customers - a way to provide the best possible products at the best possible price. With that they opened the first Cumberland Farms store in Bellingham, Massachusetts.
The first of its kind to the region, it revolutionized how New England got its milk. Cumberland Farms "milk stores" quickly popped up throughout the Northeast.
But why stop at dairy? People wanted a better value on an entire range of products - groceries, beverages, health, and cosmetics. Cumberland Farms quickly expanded to become New England's first true convenience store.
As people's needs changed, so did Cumberland's offerings. Self-serve gas pumps began springing up outside the stores.
Acquisitions of various petroleum suppliers ensured not only the widespread convenience of Cumberland Farms, but also that it would always be available at the lowest possible price.
Today, Cumberland Farms continues to transform right before your eyes, with a whole new state-of-the-art shopping experience featuring delicious beverages, snacks, and freshly prepared sandwiches. Revamped store designs and the introduction of the ever popular Chill Zone continued to make Cumberland Farms the "stop that keeps you going". We're still family owned, still family operated, and still dedicated to making every day easier for you.
